ARREST MADE AFTER CITY BUS DRIVER MURDERED ON ROUTE, SHOT IN HEAD

Darian Dru Thavychith, 21, was arrested on March 1, 2022. Darian is charged with the murder of Charlotte Area Transit System bus driver Ethan Rivera, 41. The victim was shot and killed while he was driving a bus in uptown Charlotte, NC. Ethan had young children.

Ethan was murdered on February 11, 2022 on West Trade Street while he was on duty. At 9:30 p.m. Ethan was on a city bus in downtown Charlotte driving 4 to 5 passengers to their destinations when a driver in a SUV had a road rage dispute with Ethan. The suspect in the SUV pulled up beside the large bus and fired several shots.

Ethan was shot in the head, the bus then drove off the roadway. The suspect SUV sped off. 911 was called and paramedics rushed Ethan to Atrium Main hospital. Ethan later died from his injuries. 

 Darian was arrested out of state on Tuesday morning and charged with murder; the FBI helped with his arrest.

Ethan had worked for Charlotte Area Transit System for two years.
