Clifford Smith, 51, was arrested on October 5, 2022 charged with the homicide of 30-year-old Desmond Balogun in Charlotte, NC.
The situation began on October 2, 2022, shortly after 8 p.m., officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon with injury call on Green Ivy Lane.
Upon arrival, officers located Desmond suffering from a gunshot wound. Paramedics transported Desmond to Atrium Health Main hospital with life threatening injuries.
Clifford was arrested on October 3, 2022 charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury regarding Desmond being shot.
During the early evening hours of October 5, 2022, Desmond succumbed to his injuries and died at the hospital. Detectives have upgraded the charge on Clifford to murder.
