Rachel King, 35, was shot and killed on April 11, 2023 right in front of her 11-year-old son as they sat in the drive thru of a Dunkin Doughnuts business in Philadelphia. Rachel was a school teacher on her way to work.
At 7:39 a.m. Rachel was in the car with her son in the Dunkin Doughnuts drive thru. A male dressed in black got out of a nearby vehicle and shot several times at Rachel as she was sitting in the driver’s seat of her vehicle.
Rachel was hit multiple times as her son sat in the backseat watching in horror. The suspect then ran off and the vehicle fled.
911 was called and Rachel died at the scene. The Dunkin Doughnuts was in the Melrose Shopping Center.
A heavy police presence gathered around the area and the business was taped off at the drive thru.
Rachel’s son was not shot, but he was cut by glass and sustained mild injuries. Police say this was a targeted attack. Rachel was a school teacher for more than 10 years in the Mastery Charter Schools district.Mastery Charter Schools released this statement:
“This morning, a teacher from mastery’s Grover Cleveland Elementary was the victim of a fatal shooting in Philadelphia. We send our deepest condolences to her family and loved ones. We are devastated by the loss of an extraordinary teacher, who spent the last 10 years working with our students and their families.”
