20-year-old Pierre Damas Bel killed himself on August 31, 2026 in Springfield, Ohio after the Trump administration stripped away his temporary protected status.
Pierre had just graduated high school and was going to attend Wright State University in a few weeks.
Pierre came to the United States in 2024 on a Temporary Protected Status VISA from Haiti to be with his parents. He went to high school in Ohio.
The Trump administration terminated Temporary Protected Status for over 350,000 Haitian immigrants in the United States, mainly in Ohio after a supreme court ruling allowed Trump officials to deport haitians with TPS.
The deportation move affected Pierre, as immigration officials scheduled him for deportation back to Haiti and placed a GPS ankle monitor on him.
Pierre did not want to go back to Haiti, so he committed suicide. Pierre was driving in traffic on the highway when he stopped his vehicle, got out and walked into oncoming traffic.
A large dump truck then hit Pierre and he died on scene.
