The killer of Zaquez Blakley, 24, will walk free after prosecutors decided that the person that shot and killed Zaquez was with in the parameters of the self defense law. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.

Zaquez was shot and killed on April 18, 2026 on Dundeen Street Charlotte, NC. At 8:45 p.m. Zaquez and a second person were shooting at each other over a dispute. Zaquez was shot, he was able to drive to a hospital where he collapsed at the emergency room entrance.
The suspect that shot Zaquez was detained and questioned. Zaquez had been getting arrested since he was 16 years old.
In May 2026 it was decided by the district attorney’s office that murder charges were not valid for this case, citing the suspect was acting in self defense when Zaquez was killed. The suspect will walk free without facing any charges.
