James Rothwell, 55, was arrested on February 19, 2026 charged with murdering Sean Mason, 38, in the Food Lion parking lot located on 7400 The Plaza Road Charlotte, NC. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.
James and Sean were driving separate cars and got into a road rage altercation in the area of the Food Lion on February 19th.
The two vehicles then pulled into the Food Lion parking lot. Sean said to James, “whats up now fat boy.” Sean then flinched his shoulder, James thought Sean was pulling out a gun, so James shot into Sean’s car multiple times striking him.
Sean was shot and then crashed into a building across the street from Food Lion. Sean died on scene. James was arrested charged with murder.
Several schools were put on lock down after the shooting.
