A Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department officer identified as Warith Muhammad, 47, was arrested on April 16, 2024. Wairth is a lieutenant with the police department. His wife Debbie Muhammad, 48, was also arrested, both were accused of financial card fraud in Charlotte, NC. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.
Police lieutenants in Charlotte make over $100,000 a year. Debbie worked at Re Salon and Spa Inc. And in April 2023 Debbie was fired from the spa. Cops get arrested all the time.
Court documents say that Debbie used the company credit card a day after her termination to make a $1,600 donation to Masjid Ash Shaheed, which is a mosque that Warith and Debbie attended.
Warith controlled the donation account where the mosque donation was made. Warith is accused of then sending the $1,600 to his bank account and then writing a $1,550 check to Debbie.
The Re Salon and Spa disputed the charge with the credit card company, but the dispute wasn’t resolved.
The owner of the spa then contacted police, alleging theft. Cops obtained warrants to look into Warith’s text messages, phone, etc. and they allegedly found communications of Warith instructing Debbie to say she is the authorized user of the company credit card.
After an nearly year long investigation, Debbie and Warith were arrested charged with financial card fraud and felony conspiracy.
Debbie was also charged with financial card theft and accessing computers.
