Shortly after 5:40 p.m. on June 14, 2020, officers responded to reports of a motor vehicle collision near the intersection of Billy Graham Parkway and Morris Field Drive in Charlotte, NC. A Hyundai Accent, a Dodge Ram pickup truck, a Ford Fusion, and an overturned U-Haul truck were involved in the collision.
Jada Moore, 21, was killed in the crash. Robert Shields Jr., 47, was arrested after his vehicle allegedly drove into the back of another vehicle causing a chain reaction wreck.
As the involved vehicles were coming to a stop for a red light at the intersection of Morris Field Drive, the U-Haul truck struck the rear of the Hyundai and caused a reaction of secondary crashes as the vehicles were pushed forward. During the collision, the U-Haul overturned to its side.
Failure to reduce speed appears to be a contributing factor for the driver of the U-Haul. There are no contributing factors for the drivers of the other three vehicles.
The driver of the U-Haul identified as Robert was arrested and charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision and possession of drug paraphernalia.
