SON OF SWETTIE PIE’S RESTAURANT OWNER ARRESTED ON MURDER RELATED CHARGES

Date:

The son of Robbie Montgomery, reality TV star and owner of Sweetie Pie’s, is accused of facilitating a murder-for-hire plot against his nephew Andre Montgomery in an attempt to collect $450,000 of the nephew’s life insurance money, prosecutors say. The victim Andre was Robbie Montgomery’s grandson.

Sweetie Pie’s is a line of several soul food restaurants throughout the United States. The restaurant was such a favorite that the OWN Network picked up the brand for a television show from 2011-2015.

James Norman, 41, was arrested on August 18, 2020 in Jackson, Mississippi. James is charged with conspiracy to use interstate commerce facilities in the commission of a murder-for-hire, resulting in death. James is the son of Robbie Montgomery.

James’ nephew, Andre Montgomery was fatally shot on March 14, 2016 in St. Louis. Prosecutors say James conspired with a woman, Terica Ellis, of Memphis, Tennessee, in Andre’s murder.

In 2014, when Andre was 18, prosecutors say James obtained a $450,000 life insurance policy on Andre. James was the sole beneficiary.

James allegedly flew to St. Louis a few days before Andre was killed. On the day of the murder prosecutors say Terica used a temporary phone to determine the location of Andre.

Terica’s phone location placed her near Andre at the time of his death, according to prosecutors. Terica allegedly later deposited more than $9,000 in cash into various bank accounts, prosecutors say. A week after the killing, James contacted the life insurance company in an attempt to collect on Andre’s policy.

Terica and James were charged with conspiracy to use interstate commerce facilities in the commission of a murder-for-hire, resulting in death.
