Kanesha Gaines, 21, was shot and killed during a double homicide at a birthday party in Chicago, Illinois on July 30, 2023. Kanesha was shot in the face, she was a mother of two kids.
The group of women and men were gathered outside in a community for a luau birthday party. At 1 a.m. during the party a black jeep pulled up and multiple masked men jumped out and started firing shots.
One of the men yelled out, “I got you bitch!!”
Kanesha was shot in the face and killed. Another person was also killed. A total of 8 women and one man were shot at the party.
The suspects then got back in the vehicle, and the jeep sped off. No arrests have been made. The victims range in age from 20 to 33 years old.
On the same weekend as this murder, there were 47 people shot and five people murdered in Chicago.
Chicago has the highest murder rate in the United States.
