VIDEO: MAN SHOOTS AT POLICE DURING TRAFFIC STOP

On June 29, 2023, at 10:50 p.m., 42-year-old Laquincy Ward was shot and killed by police in Tampa, Florida during a traffic stop. Laquincy fired at police first. 

Tampa Police officers responded to Busch Boulevard in reference to a report of an armed male firing shots in a night club parking lot. 

Patrol officers and the Tampa Police Aviation Unit spotted the suspect vehicle in traffic.

Officers attempted a felony traffic stop. Laquincy exited the vehicle and fired multiple rounds at officers, striking the police car multiple times. Officers returned fire and struck the suspect. 

At that time the suspect re-entered the vehicle and the driver, 37-year-old female Jeanette Lockard fled.

Minutes later the vehicle came to a complete stop, Jeanette exited the vehicle and surrendered to officers. Laquincy was pronounced deceased on scene.

Investigators found the firearm in the vehicle matched the description of the gun that the complainant originally reported.
