Video released on January 7, 2022 shows the moments Jason Jones, 29, was engulfed in flames after police tasered him at a county jail in Catskill, New York. Jason died on December 15, 2021.
The fiery encounter occurred on October 30, 2021 inside of the Catskill Police Department. Jason entered the police department, it is not clear if he was in custody or filing a report.
Jason took his shirt off and began to spray flammable hand sanitizer all over his body. Police for whatever reason then tasered Jason. Within seconds Jason’s body became completely engulfed in flames. Fire was on Jason’s head and back. The officers were scared and ran for cover. Jason began to roll on the ground as the fire grew on his body.
The fire eventually went out, but not before Jason sustained massive burns on his head, face, shoulders, and other body parts. Paramedics arrived on scene and took Jason to a hospital.
After 48 days in a hospital ICU, Jason later died at a New York hospital.
