On September 10, 2022, at 1:13 a.m. 24-year-old Officer Tierney Tomburo was shot during a traffic stop in Las Vegas. Officer Tierney is a cop with the the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
During the traffic stop Officer Tierney asked the vehicle occupants to exit the car. 3 males got out of the car. One of the males ran away on foot, he was identified as 27-year-old Gabriel Charles.
Officer Tierney gave foot chase, Gabriel then fires a shot at the officer striking her in the mid section. Officer Tierney immediately falls to the ground in pain. The suspect tried firing more shots, but his gun jammed.
Officer Tierney was able to fire four shots from the ground striking Gabriel.
Additional officers arrived on scene and provided first aid to Officer Tierney.
Gabriel died at the hospital. The other suspects in the vehicle were released from custody, one was arrested on a DUI charge.
Officer Tierney was taken to the hospital, she is expected to survive.
