New video shows a chaotic shooting on a city bus between bus driver David Fullard and passenger Omarri Tobias, 22. The shooting was on May 18, 2023 in Charlotte, NC.
Omarri was arrested on May 22, 2023. Omarri was a passenger on a Charlotte Area Transportation System (CATS) bus. The shooting occurred on Outlets Boulevard. aboard the bus.
Omarri, asked to be let off the bus at a non designated stop. David said no and that he can only stop at official bus stops.
The bus driver and Omarri then got into an argument around 11 a.m. Omarri is accused of pulling out a gun.
David then pulled out a gun and shot Omarri several times. Omarri fired a shot at David after the initial shots by the driver.
David stands up and shoots at Omarri again, once the bus was stopped, David and Omarri exited the bus; David shoots Omarri again.
Officers responded to the double shooting on the CATS bus. Officers located David and Omarri with gunshot wounds.
Both men had injuries and were taken to the hospital by ambulance. According to CATS it’s against policy for a CATS employee to have a weapon on CATS property or while performing their job. CATS fired David days after the shooting, because he had a gun on a city bus as an employee.
Omarri was arrested after days in the hospital on May 22nd and he is now charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injuries, communicating threats, and carrying a concealed firearm. The bus driver is still in the hospital and is not expected to be arrested.
