Uber driver Janice Lopez was killed in a chain reaction crash near Charlotte
Janice Lopez, 53, is the Uber driver that was killed in a vehicular collision on November 9, 2025 in Gastonia, NC. There was also an Uber passenger in the car that was critically injured. Many Uber drivers have been killed on the job, see here.
The fatal crash was on Gaston Day Road around 7 p.m. A black Cadillac sedan driven by a 19-year-old Gastonia man was heading southbound on Gaston Day at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control, crossed the center line, and collided head on with the Uber driver.
The Uber driver Janice was killed. The female passenger in the back seat of the Uber was critically injured.
Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram. The crash triggered a chain reaction involving two other vehicles, those drivers were listed in serious condition. The teen driver of the Cadillac was injured and sent to the hospital.
At this time, no charges have been filed as officers are awaiting toxicology results. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
