Antonio Harris, 32, was killed in a motor vehicle crash on Labor Day weekend 2024 September 1st on West Sugar Creek Rd. Charlotte, NC. Leonardo Perez, 31, was arrested accused of the deadly crash.
Antonio was killed in a hit and run collision at 10:15 p.m. Antonio was a pedestrian walking on West Sugar Creek Road. Labor Day weekend in Charlotte has been full of violence.
Antonio was standing in the median waiting to cross traffic when he was struck by a Chevrolet Silverado truck allegedly traveling in the wrong direction on West Sugar Creek Road.
The driver was identified as Leonardo according to police. The truck failed to stop and did not remain at the scene of the crash to render medical aid to Antonio.
Upon arrival, officers located Antonio unresponsive lying partially in the median. An ambulance transported Antonio to Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased.
Leonardo was later arrested and charged with felony death by vehicle, felony hit and run causing death, no operator’s license, and reckless driving.
