The suspect was going 72 in a 35 mph zone when he crashed into a missionary carrying the book of Mormon
In May 2026 26-year-old Tyzhaun Carney pled guilty to killing Aleki Langi, 18, during a hit and run crash on Beatties Ford Rd. Charlotte, NC. Aleki was a mormon missionary riding bikes spreading his religion.

The accident was on May 1, 2025 when Aleki was riding on bike with fellow mormons on Beatties Ford Rd. Tyzhaun was driving a vehicle speeding going 72 mph in a 35 speed zone.
Tyzhaun lost control and smashed into Aleki while carrying the book of mormon. The crash knocked Aleki off of his bike onto the ground. The collision also knocked off Aleki’s leg.
Aleki died on scene. Tyzhaun fled the scene and never stopped. The suspect fled to South Carolina and was not caught until a month later. Tyzhaun was charged with manslaughter and felony death by vehicle. Tyhaun pled guilty in May 2026 and was sentenced to 31 to 47 months in prison.
