MOTHER ARRESTED AFTER HER NEW BORN BABY FOUND IN TRASH CAN

Maryuri Estefany Calix-Macedo, 21, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder after she allegedly abandoned her newborn baby inside a trash can in Wilmington, NC. Maryuri was arrested on July 20, 2020.

Maryuri’s baby was found inside a trash dumpster on July 16, 2020. A woman walking her dog heard the baby’s cries coming from the trash can and rescued the child. The baby was taken to a hospital and is expected to be okay.

Maryuri was taken into custody and then was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for an assessment.

Maryuri made a brief court appearance Monday afternoon through video. Through a translator, she asked for a court-appointed attorney.
