On March 2, 2023 the mayor in College Park, Maryland was arrested on 56 counts of child pornography. The suspect is Mayor Patrick Wojahn, he resigned on March 1, 2023. His charges also include 40 counts of possession of child exploitative material and 16 counts of distribution of child exploitative material.
On February 28, 2023 a search warrant was executed at Mayor Wojahn’s residence as part of an ongoing police investigation.
Prince George’s County Police were notified by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that child pornography had been uploaded to the messaging site KiK in January 2023.
KiK removed the videos and then informed the aforementioned national network.
A subpoena was later issued to Yahoo.com for information related to the email account associated with the KiK account in question.
That email address then led to Mayor Wojahn. Police later served a search warrant at the mayor’s home in College Park.
Cops recovered multiple cell phones, a storage device, a tablet and a computer at Mayor Wojahn’s home that allegedly contained child pornography. Mayor was then arrested.
Prince George’s County Police Chief Aziz Malik says:
“In so many ways that people count on public officials, people who are supposed to be honest and trustworthy and have a high degree of integrity, it is troublesome.”
Mayor Wojahn had been mayor since 2015 and was previously a city council member.
