A Valentine’s Day murder broke a family’s heart

On February 10, 2026 Kenya Venable, 24, pled guilty to the second degree murder of Natajah Johnson, 21. The homicide was in Charlotte, NC.

Natajah was murdered on Valentines Day February 14, 2024 at a shopping center on Tuckaseegee Road right outside of a barber shop.

Natajah was sitting in a vehicle when a suspect killed him in a drive by shooting. The suspects drove next to Natajah in the shopping center parking lot. Several shots were fired at Natajah with a automatic Glock switch gun.

The suspect vehicle then sped off. Multiple bullet holes were seen throughout the victim’s vehicle and windows. Natajah died at the hospital. 

During the morning hours of February 23, 2024, the police Violent Criminal Apprehension Team located and arrested 3 suspects Khalil Bass, Kenya Venable, and Akilah Parham.

Bass and Venable were charged with murder and discharging a weapon into occupied property.  

Parham was charged with accessory after the fact to 1st degree murder and filing a false police report. In February 2026 Kenya pled guilty to murder and was sentenced to 157-201 months in prison.

The trials of the other suspects are pending.
