MAN KILLED ON LABOR DAY WEEKEND, SUSPECT PLEADS GUILTY

In June 2026 Leonardo Hernandez Perez, 32, pled guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the killing of Antonio Harris in Charlotte, NC. Antonio was killed on Labor Day weekend 2024.

Antonio was killed in a motor vehicle crash on Labor Day weekend 2024 September 1st on West Sugar Creek Rd. Charlotte, NC. Antonio was standing in the median waiting to cross traffic when he was struck by a Chevrolet Silverado truck allegedly traveling in the wrong direction on West Sugar Creek Road. 

The driver was identified as Leonardo. The truck failed to stop and did not remain at the scene of the crash to render medical aid to Antonio.

Upon arrival, officers located Antonio unresponsive lying partially in the median. An ambulance transported Antonio to Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center where he was later pronounced deceased.

Leonardo was later arrested and charged with felony death by vehicle, felony hit and run causing death, no operator’s license, and reckless driving.

The suspect pled guilty in 2026 to involuntary manslaughter. Judge Stetzer sentenced him to 20-33 months in prison.
