Dwayne Evans, 33, will spend the rest of his life in prison after a jury convicted him on May 21, 2024 of murdering Eric Spells, 28, in Charlotte, NC. Eric was killed in 2018. Dwayne and Eric were housemates.

On July 25, 2018, officers got a missing person 911 call on S. Smallwood Place. The reporting person advised officers that her boyfriend Eric Spells had been missing since the night prior and had not shown up to work that day after an argument with their roommate, Dwayne.
When officers arrived at the residence they discovered evidence indicating that a crime had occurred. Officers requested assistance from the Missing Person and Homicide Units, who responded to the scene.
Information developed during the course of the investigation confirmed that Dwayne had murdered Eric during the argument. Dwayne then disposed of Eric’s body with assistance from 2 suspects, identified allegedly as Jason Palmer and Shavonn Scott.
Dwayne was arrested charged with murder. Jason and Shavonn were arrested too.
At his 2024 trial Dwayne was found guilty of first degree murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, concealment of death, and conspiracy to commit concealment of death.
Judge Bell sentenced Dwayne to the mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. Jason and Shavonn were charged with accessory after the fact to murder, their charges are pending.
