Natron McDougald, 24, is charged with the murder of Monica Smith, 26.
The Memorial Day weekend murder was part of a rash of violence during the holiday festivities.
As a result of continued investigation into this case, Natron was identified as a suspect. On June 5 Natron was arrested.
On the evening of May 25, 2019 Monica was killed on Catherine Simmons Avenue Charlotte, NC.
After receiving 911 calls officials located Monica on the ground with a apparent gunshot wound inside of her apartment. Medic transported Monica to the hospital where she was pronounced deceased.
Monica served in the Army at Fort Bragg and had an 8-year-old son.
