Several drive-by shootings occurred in Charlotte, NC from July 8th to July 9, 2024 including the murder of Mustaffa Muhammad, 58. On July 11, 2024 Carlos Roberto Diaz, 18, and a 16-year-old were charged with Mustaffa’s murder and several other shootings.
Mustaffa was murdered on July 9, 2024 at 1 a.m. on Statesville Avenue. Mustaffa was driving coming home from work when a suspect vehicle drove next to him and began shooting. Follow Charlotte Alerts on Instagram.
The suspect vehicle then drove off. Mustaffa died on scene.
30 minutes later a victim was shot on Lasalle Street while riding a bicycle. Just minutes later another victim was shot on Lasalle Street in a drive-by shooting.
Within the same hour a group of people were shot at on Catherine Simmons Drive. A latino woman’s house was also shot at, one female was shot inside the home.
2 other shootings occurred in south Charlotte at 1:30 a.m. in the shooting spree. A victim was shot on a bicycle on Hilary Circle. And a house was shot at on Kingsford Drive.
All of the shootings were carried out by the teenage suspects, according to police. On July 11, 2024 cops conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle they believed were used during the murder and shootings.
The 16-year-old suspect was allegedly driving the vehicle during the traffic stop. A gun and shell casings were found in the car, cops say. The teen was arrested and charged with the murder of Mustaffa.
The other suspect 18-year-old Carlos Roberto Diaz was arrested on July 11th hours after the younger teen was arrested.
Carlos was charged with murder, 5 counts of attempted murder, and several other shootings violations.
