Authorities are currently investigating the death of 55-year-old inmate Emerson Healy. On June 22, 2021 Emerson died at the Mecklenburg County Jail in Charlotte, NC.
41-year old jail inmate John Haley hung himself with blankets to the point of death on May 22, 2021.
Emerson was found unresponsive in his cell in the afternoon on June 22nd. First responders were called to the detention center and performed CPR. Emerson was transported to Atrium Health and pronounced deceased within the hour of being found unresponsive.
Emerson was arrested on June 21, 2021 and booked into the jail. The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) will conduct a thorough investigation as the medical examiner determines a cause of death.
20-year-old Karon Golightly died on May 14, 2021 at the Mecklenburg County Jail.
