On January 14, 2024 Rasheen Younger, 44, was killed after a fight at the Bertie Correctional Institution in Windsor, North Carolina.
On Jan. 12, 2024 Rasheen was assaulted by another inmate while inside the prison. Rasheen was struck by the inmate, Rasheen fell backwards, hitting his head.
Around 4:45 p.m. correctional officers discovered Rasheen unconscious. The prison’s medical team performed advanced lifesaving measures and EMS continued lifesaving measures on Rasheen.
Rasheen was transported to a local hospital. Sadly, Rasheen died 2 days later at the hospital with family at his side.
The Windsor Police Department is investigating. The Department of Adult Correction is fully cooperating with the investigation and has launched an internal investigation.
Rasheen was serving a 76-year sentence for a 1997 first-degree rape conviction in Pitt County. His projected release date was May 2, 2065. He was housed in medium custody at the prison.
