A man has been arrested in a 25 year cold case murder from 2001
Alan Phifer, 43, was arrested on August 31, 2026 accused of murdering 21-year-old Cesar Gudino Gonzalez. The victim was shot and killed in March 2001. This case is 25 years old and deemed a cold case.

Cesar was murdered in a triple shooting on March 24, 2001 on North Sharon Amity Road Charlotte, NC. Upon arrival officers located three victims suffering from gunshot wounds and two additional victims who were physically assaulted.
Cesar was pronounced deceased at the scene. The two additional victims suffering from gunshot wounds were transported to the hospital with non-life-threating injuries.
Homicide detectives responded to the scene and began their investigation. Detectives continued to investigate for years before the case eventually went cold.
On Jan. 29, 2026, the police Cold Case Unit picked up the case and began their investigation. On Feb. 9, 2026, detectives received a lab report implicating Mr. Phifer’s involvement. Detectives continued to investigate this case by conducting interviews and additional lab tests.
On August 31, 2026 Alan was arrested charged with murder and robbery in reference to Cesar’s murder.
