Immigration raids and arrests are rampant in Charlotte, as seen in these photos. One woman was even arrested in court for being in America illegally.
ICE has threatened to ramp up enforcement across Charlotte even more if the local 287(g) program ends. The program identifies if an inmate is in the United States legally or illegally when they are arrested. If found to be in America illegally, then ICE can take the suspect to a immigration detention center.
ICE said:
> “If we’re not able to take these persons into custody in the jail, we have no other choice but to expand ICE resources to go out into the community and look for them and find them ourselves. That significantly increases the likelihood that we may come across other unlawfully present persons – who weren’t even on our radar – and those persons could be taken into custody as well.”

ICE has made arrests at people’s homes, at jobs, and in and around Charlotte. ICE has most recently stepped up its enforcement arrests at the Mecklenburg County Court. Illegal immigrants that come to court have unexpectedly been arrested by ICE.
Recently Maria Cometa-Velascoat was arrested in court by ICE agents. Maria was in court as a domestic violence victim, as Maria exited the courtroom ICE arrested her because she was wanted for being in the United States illegally.
The Department of Justice maintains that the American immigration system is the most generous in the world, but America is a nation of laws and they intend to continue enforcing those laws
