$1 MILLION WORTH OF MARIJUANA FOUND IN HOME DEPOT BOXES ON TRUCK

Date:

Customs and Border Protection’s Office of Field Operations seized nearly 500 pounds of marijuana in Detroit, Michigan at the Fort Street Cargo Facility on November 30, 2020.

A tractor trailer arriving from Canada was at a United States port of entry in Detroit. The cargo received a in-depth examination, which was manifested as peat moss in Home Depot boxes.

An x-ray scan yielded results inconsistent with the purported goods, and a subsequent physical inspection conducted by officers and a canine unit revealed approximately 450 pounds of marijuana concealed in 13 containers among the legitimate cargo. An additional quantity of THC gummies for personal use was recovered from the cab of the tractor.

The illicit goods were ultimately seized, along with the tractor and trailer, and a $5,000 penalty was assessed.
