INMATE DIES AT JAIL IN LESS THAN A WEEK OF BEING ARRESTED

42-year-old Tommy Hucks died at the Mecklenburg County Jail on June 11, 2022. The jail is located on 801 East Fourth Street Charlotte, NC. Tommy was an inmate at the jail.

Tommy was in his jail cell at 9:46 a.m. when he was found unresponsive during a medical emergency.

Medical personnel later arrived and made efforts to resuscitate Tommy, but at 10:26 a.m. Tommy was pronounced deceased.

Tommy was arrested and processed into the jail on June 5, 2022. The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) will conduct a thorough investigation as the medical examiner determines a cause of death.

There have been an alarming amount of deaths at the Mecklenburg County Jail under the leadership of the current sheriff. 

Furthermore, the state of North Carolina found that conditions at the jail are unsafe under the leadership of the current sheriff Garry McFadden.
