Derrick Geter, 33, died at the Mecklenburg County Jail on May 5, 2022. The jail is located at 801 East 4th Street Charlotte, NC.
At approximately 10:11 a.m., a medical emergency was called by a detention officer in the infirmary where Derrick was housed.
Paramedics arrived minutes later and transported Derrick to Atrium Main Hospital where he was pronounced deceased at approximately 11:30 a.m
Derrick has been in the jail since January 2021. The State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) will conduct an investigation into Derrick’s death.
Francine Laney died on March 2, 2022 at the Mecklenburg County Jail.
47-year-old William Rhinesmith died in his jail cell.
Michael Trent, 44, died at the Mecklenburg County Jail on April 2, 2019 at 5 am.
Inmate Emerson Healy also died at the jail.
41-year-old jail inmate John Haley hung himself with blankets to the point of death.
