SHERIFF’S DEPUTY SHOT 5 TIMES DURING TRAFFIC STOP

A Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Deputy was shot 5 times during a wild traffic stop on February 19, 2022. The shooting occurred on Salome Church Road Charlotte, NC. The shot deputy is Dijon Whyms. The suspect is 23-year-old Aiden Bryant.

The shooting was at 4:15 p.m., Deputy Dijon was conducting a traffic stop on Salome Church Road. The deputy approached the vehicle, Aiden is accused of firing multiple shots at Deputy Dijon. 

The deputy was shot 5 times, but was still able to return fire, injuring the suspect. Both Deputy Dijon and Aiden were transported to Atrium Health Main hospital.

 Deputy Dijon has been employed with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office since 2002. 

The Deputy underwent surgery and is in recovery. Aiden also suffered injuries during  the shooting.
