SUSPECT SENTENCED TO PRISON AFTER KILLING MAN DURING PHYSICAL ALTERCATION

Jonathan Ramsey, 35, was sentenced to prison on October 30, 2023 in Charlotte, NC for killing Billy McKay, 35.

Jonathan fatally assaulted Billy during a fight on August 22, 2020 at an apartment complex on Pintail Place in Charlotte.

On the morning of August 22nd Jonathan and Billy had a disagreement. Later that day, Jonathan returned to the apartment complex and got into a fight with Billy. 

Billy sustained serious injuries during the assault. Billy was transported to the hospital by medical workers where he was pronounced deceased a short time later.

Jonathan was arrested on August 23, 2020 and charged with first degree murder.

At the 2023 trial the jury found Jonathan not guilty of murder. Instead the jury found the suspect guilty of involuntary manslaughter. 

At court Jonathan admitted his status as an habitual felon. Judge Sally Kirby-Turner sentenced Jonathan to 159-203 months in prison.
