Cops get stitches. Video shows a cop getting ‘shanked’ on duty in the head
Newly released video shows the moments an officer was stabbed in the head and neck area by Peter Corey, 28, in Charlotte, NC. Responding officers shot and killed Peter during the ordeal. Peter’s girlfriend was also shot.
This incident occurred on August 20, 2023. The footage was court ordered for release following a petition by media companies.
At 8 a.m., officers responded to an assist medic call at an apartment complex on West Tremont Avenue in Charlotte. When officers arrived on scene, they heard sounds of a disturbance inside an apartment, followed by gunshots.
Officers forced entry into the apartment by kicking in the door.
Peter had a gun and was beating his girlfriend. Cops told Peter to drop the firearm.
The weapon fell out of Peter’s hand. Officer Tyler Bourque tried to physically stop Peter from hitting his girlfriend, but the officer was thrown down.
Another officer also tried to restrain Peter, but Peter stabbed Officer Shawn McMichael in the neck and lower head area with a knife. Officer Tyler Bourque shot and killed Peter.
The officer suffered serious and was taken to the hospital, Shawn had to get stitches in his head and neck. Peter died on scene. At some point Peter’s girlfriend was shot, she was likely shot by Peter during the struggle before cops arrived. The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NCSBI) is the lead investigative agency in this incident.
