MAN THAT CAN’T READ GETS CONVICTED OF RAPING WOMAN HE WENT TO CHURCH WITH, LIVED IN CAR WITH HIS MOM

Tyrice Garlins, 31, was sentenced to 58-130 months in prison after pleading guilty to rape on September 3, 2025. Tyrice can’t read and claims his disability prevents reading. Tyrice attended Wings of Love Outreach Ministries, a church on 2907 Amay James Ave Charlotte, NC. Tyrice sexually assaulted Dasia Pittman. They went to the same church. The rape occurred in July 2020 at the home of Dasia. Tyrice and Dasia were at the home. At some point Tyrice began touching the victim’s chest and putting his mouth on her chest, sucking.

Tyrice even attempted to kiss Dasia. The suspect forced the female victim to have sexual intercourse against her will. Sexual assaults are so common in Charlotte.

Dasia told police and Tyrice denied any contact with Dasia. Male bodily discharge that was white in color and sexual in nature was forensically located in Dasia’s sexual assault kit on the anal swabs, the external genitalia swabs, and on the stain collected from her underwear.

Tyrice’s DNA was found in Dasia’s sexual assault kit on the anal swab, oral swab, external genitalia swab, right breast swab, the umbilicus swab and on Dasia’s underwear.

Tyrice and Dasia’s family were close friends and had regular contact. Tyrice was later arrested charged with rape, he was also ordered not to go back to Wings of Love Outreach Ministries.

The suspect even told his attorney to not text him, because he cannot read. Tyrice claims his disability prevents him from reading.

Tyrice received SSI due to his learning disability his entire adult life. Tyrice even lived in the car with his mother because they had no place to live.

In September 2025 Tyrice pled guilty to second degree forcible rape, second degree forcible
sexual offense, and sexual battery.

A judge sentenced him to 58-130 months in prison, he must also register as a sex offender for the rest of his natural life.
