28-year-old Kayla Smith was arrested on July 12, 2024 accused of DWI and driving off the road while on Independence Blvd. Charlotte, NC.
At 11:51 p.m. on July 11, 2024 Kayla was driving a BMW vehicle on Independence Blvd., she allegedly drove off the road. An officer saw the driving and pulled Kayla over on nearby Wallace Rd.
Cops say Kayla had red glassy eyes and smelled like alcohol. Kayla was angry during the traffic stop according to court documents. Kayla said she had just came from a friend’s house.
Kayla was placed under arrest accused of driving while impaired. Once in the police vehicle cops say Kayla began banging her head on the cage inside of the patrol car.
As a result Kayla cut her forehead and was transported to Atrium Main Hospital by an ambulance. There was extensive bleeding.
Kayla refused field sobriety tests, breathalyzer tests and a blood draw test. A search warrant for a blood draw test was then obtained and granted by a Mecklenburg County magistrate.
Two vials of blood were drawn from Kayla’s arm and was processed by the police crime lab to determine her blood alcohol content. The results are yet to be determined.
