Sophie Klippel was killed in a hit and run crash, her mom and sister were hurt in the wreck
Thomas Haynes, 46, was arrested on March 23, 2026 accused of killing Sophie Klippel, 23, in a hit and run crash on The Plaza Charlotte, NC.
The fatal collision was on March 12, 2026, at approximately 10:12 p.m. The preliminary investigation indicates Thomas was driving a Honda Odyssey and ran a stop sign colliding with a Kia Soul occupied by Sophie Klippel her sister Lena Klippel, 21, and their mom Kelly Klippel, 62.
Lena was driving the Kia. Sophie was ejected from the vehicle and died on scene. Thomas is accused of running from the scene on foot. Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit and DWI Task Force responded and processed the scene.
On March 23rd Thomas was arrested charged with felony hit and run along with a laundry list of other crash related charges.
