WOMAN GIVEN PRISON SENTENCE FOR DRIVE BY SHOOTING

On November 16, 2023 Makenzie Harris, 23, pled guilty to assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The charges stem from a shooting at apartments on Yateswood Drive Charlotte, NC.

On April 7, 2021 officers responded to the listed road after a suspect fired several shots into an apartment with an semi-automatic handgun in a drive-by shooting. 

One of the victims who was inside the apartment was wounded and transported to a local hospital for treatment. The second victim was not hurt during this incident. The suspect did not make entry into the apartment unit.

Makenzie was later arrested. At trial a judge sentenced Makenzie to 23-40 months in prison; that sentence was suspended pending the defendant’s successful completion of 24 months of supervised probation. 

As a special condition of probation, the defendant was ordered to serve an active sentence of 230 days.
