WHITE MAN FOUND GUILTY OF MURDERING BLACK MAN

Justin Eric Hood, 32, has been sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison for the December 2016 murder of 26-year-old Tyshawn Calhoun. Hood’s trial began March 4, 2019, before The Honorable Carla N. Archie, Superior Court Judge, and ended March 12, 2019, with the jury’s guilty verdict.

The Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Homicide Team tried Hood, 32, for first-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. The jury found him guilty as charged. Judge Archie then sentenced Hood to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Race is a suspected motive in the crime, but this homicide has not been ruled a hate crime.
