At approximately 7:20 pm on August 24th, 2022, there was a massive fire inside the Walmart in Peachtree City, GA at 2717 West Hwy 54.
A teenage girl set a fire in the paper section. The fire quickly spread inside the store and an evacuation was ordered. The roof even collapsed due to the fire.
3 responding police officers went inside the Walmart and suffered smoke inhalation injuries. Several fire departments battled the fire throughout the night until it was extinguished around 4 am.
There was sufficient water pressure available and the store’s sprinkler system did function as designed. The Walmart did suffer extensive damage to the interior and roof.
The fire caused the roof to collapse in the Walmart. There is no current timeline on when the store will be reopened.
Preliminary investigation suggests the fire was intentionally set. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured because of this fire.
The female teen suspect admitted to starting the fire and was charged with first-degree arson.
