On June 13, 2023 a police officer with the Warren Police Department in Warren, MI was seen on video assaulting a teenage inmate in the arrest processing center. The officer is identified as Matthew Rodriguez, 48. The victim was a 19-year-old male.
The victim was arrested on multiple felony charges. While taking a mugshot and getting finger prints, the inmate and Officer Rodriguez are seen exchanging words.
Officer Rodriguez gets up and hits the teen inmate in the face, knocking the victim to the ground, Officer Rodriguez then picks the victim inmate up and slams him onto the ground.
2 other officers then sit on the victim while Officer Rodriguez punches the inmate, grabs his dread locks, and slams his head onto the ground.
Officer Rodriguez then picks the inmate up by his hair and throws him into a jail cell, all while saying something to the inmate.
Officer Rodriguez was later arrested and charged with willful neglect of duty and assault. A judge set bond at $5,000.
Officer Rodriguez was placed on leave, he will likely be fired once the criminal case is complete. He has been a Warren police officer for 14 years.
