SUSPECT ARRESTED AFTER VICTIM KILLED IN CRASH

24-year-old Avery Shelton was arrested on April 22, 2024 charged with killing Justin Scott, 38, in a vehicular collision in Charlotte, NC.

The wreck was on December 20, 2023 on Parkton Rd. Avery was driving a vehicle while Justin was walking on the side of the road.

Avery is accused of hitting Justin with the vehicle, running him over. Justin was taken to the hospital with serious brain injuries and swelling.

Avery was even featured in our “Too pretty for jail” series

Justin sustained broken ribs, collapsed lungs, broken legs, femor and tibia. Justin’s clavicle broke, he had a tracheotomy and peg put into him for feeding and drinking.

Months later on February 25, 2024 Justin died at the hospital from complications in the crash.

It took police 2 months after Justin’s death to arrest Avery. Police say Avery was driving recklessly and speeding.

Avery is now charged with involuntary manslaughter, reckless driving, driving while license revoked, no liability insurance, and failure to register vehicle.
