18-year-old Jovany Escamilla-Salinas was killed in a deadly crash on December 4, 2023. Jovany was a student at Rocky River High School. 2 other students from the same school were involved in the crash and injured. The crash was in Mint Hill, NC. Follow Charlotte Alerts News on Instagram.
The wreck occurred at 8:15 a.m. on Highway 51 near Allen Station Road.
The vehicle Jovany was in collided with another vehicle and ran off the road, flipping upside down. The vehicle caught on fire.
Sadly, Jovany died at the scene. A medical helicopter even responded to the scene.
The other 2 victims were rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Jovany played soccer at Rocky River High School. It is not clear who was driving the vehicle.
Rocky River High School Principal LeGrand sent the following statement:
“Rocky River High School families, this is an important message.Three of our students were involved in a car accident this morning. It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that one of our students died and the other two suffered serious injuries. We are heartbroken by this loss of life, and we grieve with the family and friends of our student. Our thoughts are prayers with the families and friends of all three students.The Crisis Response Team has made plans to respond to the emotional needs of all students. Counselors will be highly visible throughout the building and available to assist with grief counseling.
