Eric’s death was originally classified as a murder, but the District Attorney decided the shooting death will not go to trial
On September 9, 2021 top Charlotte, NC prosecutors decided not to file charges in the murder of former college basketball star Eric Howell, 29. Eric was shot and killed on July 25, 2021 on Deep Rock Circle Charlotte, NC.
Following the conclusion of this investigation, the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office consulted with the police homicide unit and concurred with the detectives’ decision not to charge anyone in this case.
Eric played basketball in college for Livingtstone College in Salisbury, NC in years past. Eric played on other teams following his college basketball career.
