Robert Cortez, 29, was arrested after his vehicle collided head on with a police SUV on June 16, 2021 in Charlotte, NC. Robert is accused of drunk driving.
The crash was on Central Avenue at 3 a.m.
A marked patrol vehicle and a Ford Focus were the two vehicles that collided head-on.
The Ford Focus was driven by Robert. 2 officers were working on duty in the same marked patrol SUV. Robert is accused of crossing lanes and striking the patrol SUV head-on.
Both officers were transported to Atrium Health Main with serious injuries. Robert was also transported by medic with minor injuries.
Once at the hospital, it was determined that Robert was allegedly driving under the influence and was impaired.
Upon his release from the hospital, Robert was arrested and charged with DWI, driving while license revoked, and two counts of felony serious injury by motor vehicle.
