POLICE CHIEF SHOOTS HIMSELF IN HEAD AFTER ARGUMENT WITH WIFE

Date:

The chief of the Miami-Dade County Police Department identified as Alfredo Ramirez, 52, shot himself in the head on July 23, 2023 on Interstate 75 in Riverview, FL near Tampa.

Chief Ramirez had a domestic dispute with his wife at the Marriott Waterside Hotel in Tampa during the 2023 Florida Sheriff’s Association’s Summer Conference.

Cops were called to the scene of Ramirez’s hotel room during the domestic dispute. No threat was detected, so police left the scene.

The dispute led to an angry and distraught Chief Ramirez to drive on I-75 and shoot himself in the head, attempting suicide around 10 p.m. Chief Ramirez was driving when he pulled over on the interstate and shot himself square in the head at point blank range.

Emergency personnel responded to the scene after getting 911 calls of shots fired and a stalled vehicle.

Chief Ramirez suffered serious head injuries and was taken to a Tampa hospital in critical condition. No one else was hurt during the suicide attempt.
