On May 6, 2026 Joshua McClain, 32, and Darian Huffman, 33, were sentenced to prison after they were found guilty in the shooting death of 43-year-old LaMar McNeil.

Lamar was murdered on March 10, 2020, during an alleged drug deal with Darian and Joshua at an apartment complex near Wit Way in Charlotte.
McClain got into the back seat of Lamar’s vehicle. Moments later Darian opened the driver’s side door and attempted to steal a backpack from Lamar.
After a brief struggle, Darian fired one shot that struck Lamar in the chest, then he fled on foot. McClain took the backpack and also fled on foot.
Lamar was able to make it to a nearby apartment where other residents called 911. Lamar was later transported to the hospital where he died.
The suspects were arrested charged with murder 3 days later. In 2026 Darian and Mcclain were convicted of murder. Mcclain was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Darian was given a lighter sentence due to him cooperating with the investigation.
