MAN SHOT OUTSIDE OF COURT, RIGHT BEFORE CHILD CUSTODY HEARING

Date:

Child custody cases can get very fiery. On July 12, 2021 a man was shot just prior to a contentious child custody case outside of the Caldwell County Court in Lenoir, NC. Chad Emke, 48, was charged with shooting Travis Webb, 35.

Chad had a scheduled court appearance at the Caldwell County Court Monday for a custody case. Chad was inside of a vehicle with a 10-year-old boy in front of the court building. Travis and Chad eventually began arguing.

As the altercation escalated, Chad pulled out a 9mm semi-automatic pistol and shot Travis in the upper body twice, officials say. Medics arrived and began administering life saving aid to Travis.

Travis was transferred to several hospitals and has serious injuries. Chad was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and child endangerment.

Chad’s bond was set at $500,000. The child was not physically injured during the bullet melee.
