Date:

Cold Case Unit detectives have charged Anthony Aikens, 53, with the Charlotte, NC murder of Mai Edwina Cooper, 29.

On July 4, 2004, a 29-year-old female victim was located in the trunk of an abandoned vehicle on Delane Avenue. The victim was later identified as Mai and her death was determined to be the result of a homicide.

As a result of ongoing investigation, in July of 2016, the Cold Case Homicide detectives identified Anthony as the person responsible for Mai’s death.

Anthony was released from the New York State Department of Corrections after completion of his sentence and extradited back to Charlotte, NC.

On November 1, 2019, Anthony was served with outstanding warrants for murder and first degree kidnapping in the death of Mai.
