On December 22, 2021 late in the evening a man killed himself on Shamrock Drive Charlotte, NC after forcing a woman in a car and shooting at police during a high speed chase.
Shortly after 8:41 pm, the male suspect forced a female into a car and fled the scene. Officers were able to determine the description of the vehicle. Detectives with the Real Time Crime Center were able to locate the car on traffic cameras.
Cops attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The suspect failed to stop, and a vehicle pursuit began. The police helicopter also responded to assist in the vehicle pursuit.
During the pursuit the suspect fired shots at officers. One of the police vehicles was struck by gunfire however no officers were injured. The suspect vehicle then came to a stop on Shamrock Drive. Officers discovered the suspect was suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The suspect was pronounced deceased on scene by medics.
Homicide Unit detectives responded to the incident scene to conduct an investigation.
The preliminary investigation has concluded that the victim and suspect were known to each other.
